(i) WHEREAS the Parks, Recreation and Trails Advisory Committee of the Township of Lake of Bays receives the staff report “Trail Signage”, dated June 3rd, 2009.
BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Parks, Recreation and Trails Advisory Committee of the Township of Lake of Bays recommends to Council that the attached draft trail signage policy be implemented for all hiking/walking trails within the municipality.

(a) Councillor Boivin
Councillor Boivin reported on the following:
Andrew Daniels Fish Stewardship Program
· Article in the Muskoka (pg.50 available through Clerk’s Dept.) – a good read and compliments the Township in providing support.
Millar Hill Road
· Is currently being re-constructed – drop by and have a look.
Annual General Meetings (AGM)
· The following associations have already been held:

· Bella & Rebecca’s AGM will be held on July 4th at 10:00 a.m. at Interlaken.

Councillor Tapley reported on the following:
Peninsula Lake Conservation Group meeting
· Management plan almost completed.
· 1,000 trees and cranberry bushes planted this spring with help from Girl Guides and volunteers.
Sports Tourism Seminar – Deerhurst - June 18th, 2009
· Interesting session on attracting sporting events to the area, with emphasis on not limiting the focus to events such as triathlons, but to keep the spectrum wide.
Chamber of Commerce
· Successful golf tournament – great weather.
Heritage Advisory Committee
Designation of Properties
· Working on the next designation application, an historic cottage on an island in Lake of Bays.
· Thanks to Carrie Sykes for her excellent work on developing our designation policies.
· Have received applications for six additional heritage properties, so this program would appear to be very successful.
Doors Open
· Thank you to all who helped make it such a success.
· Harriet for recruiting volunteers, The Huntsville Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce for loaning us Kate and Port Cunnington Lodge for hosting the volunteer dinner.
· Very well received, with some excellent comments and suggestions on how to improve next event.
· Silent auction did well and certainly helped with the budget for this program – a thank you to Dwight Library for hosting this.
Trailer Donation – Moving Artifacts
· Thanks to Hammond Transportation, Darcy Hammond and Russ Nicholls.
· Have received a donation of a 53’ trailer for storage of the Bigwin artifacts and we are organizing how to move the artifacts into it quickly.
· Thanks to Ian Smith, who has allowed us to store the artifacts temporarily in his soon-to-be brewery property in Baysville.
Dispersal of Artifacts
· Muskoka Heritage Place, Bigwin Steamship project and Dorset Heritage Museum have both received examples of the big Rotunda windows and/or curved railings for use in their displays.
· In discussion with Grace & Speed in Gravenhurst who are also interested in acquiring some of these artifacts for their museum.
· Baysville Brewery is also anxious to incorporate some of these artifacts into their new building.
· Since the aim of the Heritage Committee is to ensure that examples of these artifacts are both preserved and displayed for the public, we are very pleased with the welcome and thanks we have received from these recipients.
· Donation forms and loan agreements are in place for all these items.
Grand Opening NorthArt Gallery in Dwight
· June 13th, 2009 by owner, Ron Murdoch.
· New Gallery is behind Heroes Antiques and is an excellent addition to the core of Dwight.
· Mural of Tom Thompson’s “The Drive” is currently being completed on one wall of the building, as part of the Group of Seven Mural Festival.
Phyllis Hungerford (Lumina Resort)
· Will be celebrating her 80th birthday in late August.
· Phyllis has been one of the most supportive and active members of the Fox Point/Port Cunnington community.
· Lumina remains one of the lake’s iconic summer resorts.
Lake of Bays Association
· Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be meeting on July 11th in Dwight.
Lake of Bays Silent Boat Rally
· July 12th at Bondi Village Resort
· Poker Run with electric or man-powered boats.
· Canoes, kayaks, rowboats, electric boats are all there.
· Canoe rentals are available through the Lake of Bays Association application for the event.
· Great day on the water with a BBQ.
Muskoka Concert Band
· July 16th at 7:00 p.m. at the Dwight Beach
· Very popular event last year
· Rain venue is the Dwight Community Centre
Heritage Days
· July 12th at the Dorset Heritage Museum
· Horseshoe pitching contest to be held night before.
Trivia Night
· July 22nd at Dwight Community Centre.
· Starts 7:00 p.m. sharp.
· Teams of six people.
· $60 per team.
· Register with Peggy at Dwight Library.

Councillor Ross reported on the following:
· Letter, re: Reconsideration of Hot Dog Cart Application (Arbeau)

Councillor Casey reported on the following:
Muskoka Watershed Council
· Attended June 19th meeting at Gravenhurst Wharf.
· Members visited the re-naturalized stream outfall into the bay at the wharf and were impressed with water quality and wildlife habitat improvements that have occurred due to cleanup of previous contaminated lands during the redevelopment of this site.
Parks, Recreation & Trails Advisory Committee
· An inventory of signage required has been undertaken by committee members and funding to install the necessary signage is included in the 2009 budget.
ABC Recreation Ltd.
· Attended a Lunch & Learn Open House on June 17th.
· Picked up current catalogues for playgrounds and streetscape furniture that may be of interest to the sponsors of various G8 projects previously submitted.
Lake of Bays Community Centre Kitchen Upgrades
· June 22nd convened a meeting of staff and community members to review the overall design and implementation of the new kitchen facilities.
· Funding is available with a previously awarded Ontario Trillium Grant.
· Due to the identification of the centre as a reception centre in the Township’s Emergency Plan, the design standards for the kitchen have changed considerably from the submission of the grant application.
Development Charges
· District Council held a public meeting on June 22nd
· Council approved a 13% annual increase from current residential charges that will result in residential development charges reaching the recommended levels by 2013.
Muskoka Trails Council
· Attended June 25th meeting
· 1st annual Muskoka Amazing Race on August 22nd.
· The course for this event will begin in Gravenhurst.
· Registration is restricted to 50 teams of 2 people and is proceeding well.
· This is a fundraising effort by Muskoka Trails council.
Muskoka Active Transportation Community Group
· Attended June 25th meeting.
· With funding from Take Heart Muskoka this committee is able to provide two bicycle racks to each municipality in Muskoka.
· It is anticipated that this racks can be installed at the arena in Baysville and either at the library in Dwight or at the beach.
· Staff and Parks, Recreation & Trails Advisory Committee will be consulted on the installation sites.
Baysville Riverfront Group
· Attended June 25th meeting
· It was announced that this group had a positive response to their G8 submission of a band shell and washroom for Grist Mill Park and Robertson Parkette in Baysville.
EnviroCredits
· Attended June 30th meeting at Deerhurst.
· The public now has a method of offsetting their carbon emissions that will result in improvements to Muskoka’s natural environment in responding to the stress of climate change.
Surf & Turf Dinner
· Held July 4th at the Baysville Curling Club.
Baysville Walkabout
· Annual event to take place on July 25th.
· Sponsored by the Baysville Community Group.
11. MAYOR’S REPORT
Mayor Peake reported on the following:
· Was a guest speaker at YMCA;
· Participated in Doors Open;
· Attended training in Accessibility Customer Service;
· Met with Superintendant, Tim Charlebois, re: G8 security;
· Attended Algonquin Health Service Recovery Plan and participated in discussions;
· Attended various meetings with ratepayers and community groups;
· Attended the Muskoka Watershed Council sponsored lecture series “Ecotourism & the G8” held at the Algonquin Theatre;
· Mayors Golf Tournament was held on June 24th;
· Attended at Dwight Seniors with a Township congratulatory certificate for the 70th anniversary of Inez and George Gregory;
· Attended the opening of the gallery NorthArt in Dwight on Hwy. 60;
· Attended the opening of the new E.M.S. station in Huntsville;
· Attended Lake Association meeting;
· Visited community bazaars;
· Attended and spoke at the launch of the Muskoka EnviroCredits program at Deerhurst;
· Participated with Minister Tony Clement’s Golf Tournament.
