7.       COMMITTEE RESOLUTIONS FOR CONSIDERATION

 

(a)                Finance and Corporate Services Committee

 

i)                   BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Finance and Corporate Services Committee receive the staff report “Norway Point Parking and Docking Enforcement” dated April 13th, 2010.

 

AND FURTHER THAT Finance and Corporate Services Committee recommends to Council that status quo remain (i.e. no enforcement of parking or docking)

 

ii)         BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Finance and Corporate Services Committee recommends to the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Lake of Bays the approval of the 2010 Budget (Draft 4) in the amount of $313,036 increase over the 2009 levy.

i)                   BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Parks, Recreation and Trails Advisory Committee recommends to the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Lake of Bays that the township website be linked to the Muskoka Trails Council (MTC) website for access to the municipal trail maps; and

 

FURTHER that the 2010 Lake of Bays Mayor’s Walk be held at the Paint Lake Covered Bridge Walking Trail in conjunction with the MTC May 1st media event that will recognize the Trillium Foundation funding for the position of the MTC Regional Trails Coordinator as well as the launch of the 2nd edition of the Hip Clip, the MTC website, Trails Passport and improved signage for all Muskoka municipal trails.

(e)                Norway Point Advisory Committee

 

(i)                 BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Norway Point Advisory Committee request that Council provide funding to a maximum of $5,000 to provide a Master Plan prepared by a Landscape Architect and the terms of reference will be provided by the Norway Point Advisory Committee.

 

(ii)               BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Norway Point Advisory Committee hereby receives the petition “Help Save Norway Point Park” submitted by the Friends of Norway Point objecting to the proposed improvements to Norway Point Park and that it remains status quo.

 

FURTHER that the Norway Point Advisory Committee hereby directs this petition to the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Lake of Bays.

Councillor Burgess reported on the following:

 

Earth Day

·        There will be an “Earth Day Clean-Up” in Sinclair Township. Thanks go out to Shane Baker of Tasso Lake who has organized this event.  Last year over 40 people participated, clearing the entire length of District Rd #8 (Limberlost Rd) as well as some Township roads.  Those who would like to come out and lend a hand, please meet at Fieldale Road at 9:30 a.m. Saturday the 24th of April.

 

Charity Garage Sale – Saturday, May 15th

·        From 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Lepage Lakes of Muskoka – Dwight Office – in support of Muskoka Interval House, Chrysalis Hose and the Royal Lepage Shelter Foundation.  Donations gratefully received.  Please deliver items by May 12th at 4:00 p.m.

Councillor Casey reported on the following:

 

Muskoka Trails Council Annual General Meeting March 27th

·      Participated in this well attended event that included a strategy setting session for the upcoming year

·      New participants generated new ideas and validated the activities to date

 

Muskoka Watershed Council

·      2010 Muskoka Watershed Report Card

·      Will be launched in May in the various Muskoka media

·      It will highlight evaluations by sub-watersheds for land and water indicators as well as special sections on climate change and stewardship

·      The report card will also have a web presence with the ability to look at each indicator on a sub-watershed basis.

 

Forest Health Program, Planning and Economic Development Initiative, DMM

·      Attended the April 15 PED committee meeting where Tony Armstrong, DMM Forest Health Technician, reviewed the progress and success of the Forest Health program

·      Lots of interest in this initiative by private landowners of woodlots in Muskoka; his activities to date have included many site visits and discussions with landowners, many of whom are absentee owners

·      He is interested in talking with rural landowners in Lake of Bays, Sinclair ward.

 

G8 Projects in Baysville

·      Riverfront, Baysville Horticultural Society and Baysville Community Group projects all proceeding smoothly and within grant funding awarded

·      Some parts have been finished – street signage, entrance rocks, some signage in parks.

·      Other components nearing completion.

 

Special Municipal Roundtable on Muskoka’s Creative Economy April 21st

·      Was asked to represent Township of Lake of Bays at this event

·      Presentation by Patti Tombs, Manager Cultural Planning and Economic Development, City of Hamilton that outlined their approach and success to date.

·      Everyone in attendance was inspired by the keynote speaker.

·      Lots of initiatives underway throughout Muskoka and passion and interest in Creative Economy in Muskoka was clearly articulated by everyone.

 

Other activities

·      Participated in a number of discussion related to the Community Based Strategic Plan strategic initiatives, including the Dorset Community Plan

·      Participating in the planning of the 2nd Annual Amazing Race sponsored by Muskoka Trails Council

·      Meetings with various community groups and conversations with many constituents.

·      Participated in a MWC tree planting April 24

·      Coordinated the township wide Earth Day cleanup of district and township roads.
