Building Department

The purpose of the Building Department is to:

  • Ensure new developments conform to zoning by-laws
  • Ensure all new structures conforms with Ontario Building Code and other applicable law
  • Enforce the Building Code Act
  • Environmental concerns – Septic re inspection
  • Maintain the civic address system​

*New* as of February 2016 - Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) require a Work Permit for all new or additions to structures over the water that are larger than 161 sq.ft. (15 sq.m).

Development Charges - Development charges are paid when developing land that is vacant or has been vacant for two or more years after removing any existing structures.

Building Permit Application Information:
NOTE:  The Building Department review is to ensure that they meet Ontario Building Codes, Municipal By-law and other applicable law.  If the project requires a septic approval, the building permit will not be issued until such approval is granted.

  • Contact the local MNRF District Office for an application to construct and place your structure if the structure(s) is greater than 2 storeys, is non-residential, or the proposed new dock footprint is greater than 106 sq ft.
