Bigwin Island

Treasuring Family Fun & Tradition

Bigwin is an island paradise with over 26,000 feet of shoreline located on beautiful Lake of Bays in Muskoka. Boasting a top rated 18-hole golf course, the finest in cuisine, and cottage living with resort community amenities, Bigwin Island offers an opportunity for families to experience Muskoka at its finest.

Named in the 19th century after the noted Ojibway warrior and hunter, Chief Joseph Big Wind, Bigwin is known for its majestic views, peaceful bays and storied past. Once known as North America's largest and most luxurious summer resort, The Bigwin Inn opened its doors in the early 1920’s and quickly became the resort of choice for socialites and celebrities who travelled to the island by steamboat to enjoy fine dining, entertainment, water sports and summer recreation... all with the rugged beauty of Muskoka as a backdrop.

The golden era for the inn lasted for a couple of decades until changing vacation patterns, changes in ownership, and various other economic factors led the property to languish for a long time.

Today, Bigwin Island thrives as an inclusive golf community, offering spectacular scenery on a unique, challenging yet player friendly golf course. The adventure begins the moment you arrive at Norway Point with a short, scenic boat trip to the historic clubhouse, where you can savour a fine meal in the clubhouse restaurant housed in the inn's historic original dining room.

Become an Equity Golf Member to have access to the 18-hole course during the peak season of July and August or take advantage of playing during non-peak periods when the island’s amenities open to the public in May, June, September and October.

With new leadership and investment, Bigwin's glory days are back again and the future has never looked more exciting! The services and amenities offered on Bigwin Island have been adapted over the years to stay relevant and competitive in changing economic conditions. At the height of the season, the island employs over 100 staff offering exceptional service to its members and guests.
