Charles Cooper
Charles Cooper is a community builder, business owner, avid volunteer and cottager. His background in technology and business, combined with his view of less government will enhance operational efficiencies of the township, ensuring fiscal restraint. Charles has provided strong leadership to many organizations maximizing services delivered to vulnerable populations with minimal change in budget year to year. Governance responsibilities have included chair of the finance and audit committee (One Kids Place), Chairman of the Board (Peel Senior Link), President of his lakes cottager’s association and cofounder of the food bank in Dwight Ontario. He sat on the environmental sub-committee for the City of Mississauga safeguarding that delicate balance between growth and the environment for matters before council.
Charles has volunteered with the Ontario Track3 program since 1997 and in 2022 introduced this program locally enabling disabled children to enjoy alpine skiing. Charles is appointed to the Ontario Trillium Foundation, reviewing grant applications to local charities.
The Lake of Bays has always been Charles’ sanctuary of peace and is fortunate to have this as his full-time residence. He plans to preserve and defend the magic that makes Lake of Bays so special for generations to come. Vote Charles Cooper, www.charlescooperlob.com.
Tim Withey
Tim has called Huntsville home for over 38 years and has lived in Baysville for the past year. He recently purchased a home in Hillside, Lake of Bays. He is the founder and owner of Withey Insurance Brokers Ltd. in Huntsville and is a lifelong Muskoka resident with deep roots in the region. His grandfather secured a lease in Algonquin Park in 1919, giving Tim a lifelong connection to the area.
Tim holds a BA in Environmental Studies, with environmental sustainability among his key interests. His education, business experience and extensive community service provide a strong foundation for responsible fiscal, environmental, infrastructure and healthcare decision-making.
He has served two terms on Huntsville Council, including as Chair of Community Services and Corporate Services, and on District Council’s Health Services Committee.
Tim has dedicated decades to volunteering, serving as a director with Huntsville District Memorial Hospital, Fairvern Nursing Home, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare, Algonquin Grace Hospice, Vice Chair of Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare, the Chamber of Commerce, Crimestoppers, and others. He currently serves as President of the Algonquin Park Residents Association, and as a director on the Rosseau Lake College Board, the Regional OPP Board, the Algonquin Forestry Authority, and Ontario Trillium Foundation Board. Several of these roles were through Provincial Order in Council appointments.
Tim is a proud parent of three children and grandparent to four.
Matt Young
Matt Young has spent his life serving the community he calls home. Raised in Lake of Bays, Matt joined the Township’s fire department and now serves as a Station Chief. His love for Lake of Bays is why he chose to raise his family here and operate his three businesses in the area: SPY Communications, Algonquin Fiber, and MP Planning & Associates.
Matt is running for Mayor because he sees an opportunity to bring new energy to the Township of Lake of Bays Council. He is a young, progressive thinker focused on pragmatic solutions that put the people of Lake of Bays first. Matt sees the economic potential in the area but feels this growth should come with the right guardrails in place. For him, this means responsible development, with Council carefully considering how this growth will impact local residents, businesses, and the environment.
If elected, Matt is committed to bringing residents and the Council together. His collaborative and common-sense approach is built on the belief that local government works best when the whole community has a say.
