Heat Warning Issued for Lake of Bays June 23, 2025

The Lake of Bays region has been issued a heat warning by Environment Canada. This heat event could last until the morning of Wednesday June 25, 2025, with temperatures ranging from 30 to 33 degrees Celsius (with a humidex of 40 to 43).

During periods of high and humid temperatures, the risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration, or heat stroke is significantly increased. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) advises that you should be careful of your health and look for ways to avoid overheating.

  • Be sure to drink plenty of fluids (non-caffeinated). Don’t wait until you feel thirsty, as that is a sign that your body is already becoming dehydrated.
  • Stay cool indoors.
  • If you must be outside, stay in the shade and make sure you wear and reapply sunscreen, a broad-brimmed hat, sunglasses and lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Draw blinds or curtains to prevent radiant heat from entering homes.
  • Keep physical activity to a minimum.

Infants and young children, the elderly and people with chronic lung conditions or taking certain prescription drugs are more vulnerable to harm from overheating. Check in on family and friends who are more vulnerable to the effects of extreme heat to make sure they’re staying safe.

Residents are welcome to cool off in air-conditioned Township facilities during regular hours, such as the Dwight and Baysville Branch Public Libraries and the Lake of Bays Community Centre in Baysville.
