Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) Task Force Formed with Community Representatives

(Lake of Bays, ON) – At its meeting on May 13, 2025, Township of Lake of Bays Council approved the formation of the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) Task Force. This group will help shape the Township’s MAT program, supporting and growing local tourism.

The Township received eight applications from the public and staff carefully reviewed each application using set guidelines. The new Task Force includes members of Council, Township staff, tourism organizations, and representatives from both large and small accommodation businesses.

The Task Force will begin meeting in June and continue through the summer. Its focus will be developing recommendations on how to use funds and the tourism partnerships the program will support. Staff will present these recommendations to Council in the fall of 2025. 

The Township is committed to ensuring the public remains informed and engaged in municipal projects and encourages residents to sign up for updates on its website. As the MAT program develops, the Township will provide more opportunities for public input.
