New Art Installation Hosted Along the Tom Thomson Parkway in Lake Of Bays
(LAKE OF BAYS, ON) The Township of Lake of Bays is excited to announce a collaboration with the Huntsville Festival of the Arts (HfA) and the Huntsville Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce, bringing an installation featuring two artistic creations to the Lake of Bays area.
"Stick Man Tom" Sculpture by Marc Walter.
Situated along the Tom Thomson Parkway, adjacent to Highway 60 and the Township Municipal Office, "Stick Man Tom," is a sculpture by Quebecois artist Marc Walter.
This 19-foot-tall arboreal sculpture stands as a tribute to the enduring legacy of Tom Thomson. It commemorates an artist with a strong connection to the Lake of Bays region, aiming to shed light on Thomson’s deep connection to the area and how it influenced his artistic work.
"Group of Seven Canoes " Mural Project by local artists.
The "Group of Seven Canoes", led by local artist Gerry Lantaigne, was created by a group of artists each inspired by a different member of the renowned Group of Seven. Nestled close to the sculpture, this installation features seven murals painted on the undersides of canoes.
“We're incredibly excited to host this installation along the Tom Thomson Parkway, just in time for the beautiful fall colours. We look forward to it captivating the attention of over a million passing motorists annually,” said Stephen Derraugh, Economic Development Officer for The Township of Lake of Bays.
Both pieces, which complement each other in theme, will remain with the Lake of Bays community throughout the remainder of the 2023 season, with intentions for a more permanent display in the future.
The Township of Lake of Bays expresses its sincere gratitude to the Huntsville Festival of the Arts (HfA) for curating and showcasing these creations in the Lake of Bays community.
