Township of Lake of Bays Seeks Public Input on Dark Sky By-law Review

(Lake of Bays, ON)  - The Township of Lake of Bays invites residents, property owners, businesses, and visitors to share their thoughts as part of a review of the Township's current Dark Sky By-law.

The current Dark Sky By-law to regulate outdoor illumination was implemented in 2013. Since its adoption, the Dark Sky By-law has helped protect the region's night skies by reducing unnecessary outdoor lighting and minimizing light pollution. Preserving dark skies supports local wildlife, enhances residents' quality of life, improves nighttime visibility, and allows everyone to enjoy Lake of Bays with spectacular views of the night sky.

As part of the review process, the Township is seeking public feedback to better understand how the current by-law is working, identify any challenges or opportunities for improvement, and ensure it continues to meet the needs of the community. Residents are invited to complete a short online survey available until Friday, September 18, 2026, by visiting Engage Lake of Bays.

Public input will help directly inform any future recommendations and potential amendments to the by-law. Feedback received through the survey and other public engagement efforts will be reviewed by staff and presented to Council in Fall 2026 as part of the Dark Sky By-law Review.
