Township Partners with Muskoka Tourism for Astro-Tourism Initiative

(Lake of Bays, ON) - The Township of Lake of Bays, in collaboration with Muskoka Tourism, is inviting residents and visitors to experience the beauty of Muskoka’s night sky as part of Muskoka: Home of the Stars, a series of stargazing and astrophotography experiences taking place across the region from October 16 to November 7, 2026.

The Lake of Bays event will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Dwight Beach, featuring Astro-Photography 101. Beginning at 8:00 p.m., the hands-on program will teach participants techniques for photographing the night sky using a smartphone, with no specialized equipment required. Participants will learn simple smartphone settings and techniques for capturing different night-sky images while experiencing Muskoka after dark.

“Muskoka’s dark skies are something truly special. By taking the time to look up and appreciate the night sky, we can also build greater awareness of the importance of protecting the natural darkness that makes experiences like this possible.” said Wyatt Sneyd, Economic Development Officer, Township of Lake of Bays.
