(Huntsville/Lake of Bays) – Due to the quickly accelerating dry conditions, as of August 7, 2025, the Muskoka Fire Chiefs have issued a total fire ban. The fire danger rating is now set to extreme for Huntsville and Lake of Bays. Under a total fire ban all outdoor burning is prohibited, including charcoal barbeques and fireworks.
The Muskoka Fire Danger Rating has been elevated to HIGH due to increasingly dry conditions and limited rainfall across the region. With no rain in the forecast, the risk of wildfire remains serious.
Property located at Lumina Resort, 1348 Fox Point Road, Dwight, ON, Township of Lake of Bays, District Municipality of Muskoka is looking for an exemption which would allow for amplification of sound from Saturday, September 13th, 11:00 p.m. to Sunday, September 14th at 1:00 a.m.
The proposed by-laws will come before the Township of Lake of Bays Council for consideration at its regular meeting to be held in a hybrid setting (in-person and electronically), on the 12th day of August, 2025, at the hour of 9:00 a.m. o’clock, in the morning.
(Lake of Bays, ON) - The Township of Lake of Bays is continuing the process of reviewing and updating its Official Plan. Currently in Phase 4 of the project, the Draft Official Plan is now available for public review and comment. The review process aims to gather input from residents and stakeholders to shape the future of land use planning in the area.
To mark Muskoka Pride week, Mayor Glover, members of Council and Staff along with representatives from the Ontario Provincial Police were joined by the Muskoka Pride organization on July 21 to raise the Progress Pride Flag. The Progress Pride flag will fly high all week long as we celebrate the 2SLGBTQ+ community and honour this year’s theme: “Reclaim, Resist, Rejoice!”
This week, the Township installed a new columbarium at Paint Lake Cemetery in Dorset. It is the third columbarium available across the Township. The columbarium is located within Paint Lake Cemetery, a historic site that has served Dorset’s early settlers.
Mayor Terry Glover recently joined Josie Barter and four other graduating students from the Township of Lake of Bays to celebrate their award of $1,900 each through the newly established Lake of Bays Community Education Bursary.
The Township of Lake of Bays wishes to advise the community that work has been completed to clear a significantly damaged hedge at Gristmill Park in Baysville. The hedge between Gristmill Park and the Robertson parkette in Baysville sustained a lot of damage over the winter months, including from the ice storm in Spring 2025.
TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Lake of Bays will be considering proposed amendments to the User Fees & Charges By-law at the regularly scheduled meeting held on July 29, 2025, for the following departments:
